The goal of the Kristen Watt Foundation is to provide ways to help youth develop positive self-images, recognize the signs and symptoms of eating disorders, and know what to do if they find themselves or someone they care about faced with this problem.

About Kristen . . .

All who knew Kristen remember her beautiful smile, her zest for life, and her love for people.  She was an outstanding athlete who swam, played competitive soccer, and loved to roller blade.  At school, Kristen was a conscientious student, active in the California Junior Scholarship Federation, and an eager participant in many activities that helped make Sierra Middle School an outstanding social and educational environment.

But behind all of this was a young woman secretly struggling to fight a horrible illness.

Kristen Stephanie Watt was a beautiful and enthusiastic young woman who tragically fell victim to an eating disorder when she was only fourteen years old.

The Kristen Watt Foundation was created by  Kristen’s parents after the loss of their daughter in July 1999. Their frustration with lack of information and inadequate resources about their daughter’s illness led them to establish the foundation in an effort to help other families.

Three butterflies were used to form the logo, representing each of the Watt’s three daughters.  The top blue butterfly was chosen to reflect the blue stripes on her Adidas tennis shoes, the bottom orange was for the orange shoe strings she wore in the shoes, and Kristen’s favorite color of lime green is reflected in the middle butterfly.
